../.. The TYP356ne club visited the Paul Russell restoration shop in Essex, Ma. this past Saturday. Approximately 60 members and guests attended the event. Alex Finnegan welcomed the members and Valentine's too. We then went through all the departments that a well restored or remanufactured classic car would progress through in it restoration. <br><br>First was the mechanical room where the cars are carefully taken apart and cataloged on multiple shelves for each car. Parts are carefully brought back to original standards. Alex stated that years ago, cars were restored to better than original, but lately, cars are brought back to the state that they left the factory. <br><br>From the mechanical room, we moved to the metal working area where we saw first hand the beauty of a pre-WWII racecar was being worked on in anticipation of a concours in the South. And what a car that was! Once the metal has been brought back to specs, it moves to the body work and paint shop where aluminum cars are treated differently than steel cars and painted as they left the factory. Back at the mechanical area, the chassis is now ready to be mated to the chassis. Engines have been brought back to spec, all parts are as they left the factory. For example, a generator would be disassembled and rebuilt even though you would never know it was taken apart. But, that is the value of a Paul Russell restoration. It is always done correctly. <br><br>Then on to the upholstery shop where the foam and horsehair are done as at the factory, including Mercedes Benz luggage kits! <br><br>Once we all thanked Alex for a wonderful trip through a priceless restoration, we adjourned to Woodman's in Essex. Woodman's says they are the first place to fry a clam. So, members tasted the history and concurred that indeed, Woodman's has it right! <br><br> We all will be dreaming about MB 300 SL's and Ferrari 12 cylinders tonight.
