"Cheers to Don and Sandy Osborne"
Our return to the Mountain View Grand was a hit. The hotel still feels
fresh, like it did on its debut year, 2003, when we first visited.
The drives north were a treat, Bill Collins leading a group on Friday and
Rainer another, plus a number of ad hoc runs. Adding both brand-new members
and some first-timers we had an excellent group. Saturday drives went off
in every direction. The hundred foot porch was the place for a beverage and
it filled as drivers returned. Both evenings' cocktail receptions and
dinners equaled the best we've had on any tour. President Gentz kept us
laughing and updated on the schedule. And the new name tags debuted.
Rain wasn't a major problem, at least not until Sunday's drive home which I
hope everyone has now safely concluded. (Well the wedding party in
residence might have another opinion: the rain interrupting the vows, and
the fire alarm 30 minutes before the ceremony.)
Don Osborne planned and scheduled this event as meticulously as his two
previous tours. Sadly Don and Sandy couldn't attend. His doctor warned him
to beat his respiratory problem before he ventured forth. Every aspect of
the tour demonstrated another reason they were missed and everyone
appreciated the effort spent making this tour great.
It was a tribute to our missing tourmeister.
